It's not every day that students are visited by a 7 foot tall friendly and fuzzy red mascot during a school assembly. On February 8th, August Knodt students gathered in the gymnasium for a surprise visit from Splash—the mascot of the Stockton Ports Minor League Baseball team.

Jenny Hamby said, "The Students were thrilled to see Splash in person."

Third grader Abraham Silva exclaimed, "I like how Splash likes to read.  He entertains me, and motivates me to read too!"

The Stockton Ports' Baseball by the Books program encourages student readers in all grades to earn two free Stockton Ports tickets simply by reading books. Students must read five books for K-5th grade, and seven books for 6th-8th grade.

Book marks were provided for students to mark down the books they read. The student must have a parent, guardian, or teacher sign the bookmarks. The bookmarks will be due at the beginning of March.

Third Grader Franscua Senegal liked "how they acted out what they were reading to us."

Next to visit to Disneyland, or maybe Sesame Street, a visit from an excited baseball mascot is a thrilling opportunity.
