On January 8, 2018 at Calvary Community Church in Manteca, MUSD Professional Development department provides support and relevance to teachers and administrators with a singular focus on “making a positive difference to each and every student daily.” Connecting our teaching practices to the shift in learning through action and reflection is critical to moving forward for the current Generation Z students in the classroom. 

“Keynote speaker Mark Jutabha, for the K- 8th grade classrooms, support our teachers as school sites introduce the WestEd process to shift instruction in the classroom with the initial focus on math,” stated Julie Jenkins, MUSD Coordinator.

Jennifer Abrams, keynote speaker for the 9th-12th grades, support learning by delving into conversations that address the multi-generational workplace and community of parents, students, and staff.

Presentation time: 8:00am-10:00am

Mark Jutabha, a School Improvement Facilitator with the Comprehensive School Assistance Program, partners with districts and schools to coordinate and deliver research-based professional development and coaching services in Mathematics. Jutabha performs similar work for English Language Learners.

He provides local, state and regional-level development services to utilize Smarter Balance assessments and other formative assessments to inform classroom teaching and learning. He has created and supported design of district-, school- classroom-level curriculum and assessments aligned to the CCSS, ELD, and NGSS standards, Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium protocols for over 100 public and charter schools and districts including New York Public Schools, NY; Los Angeles Unified, CA; Clark County, NV; Buffalo Public Schools, NY; Lake County, CA; Racine Unified, WI; Lyon County, NV; Lamar County, MS.

Jutabha has conducted needs assessments to identify site-based assets and priority areas for turnaround efforts for districts and stand-alone schools in California, Nevada, Wisconsin, and New York. He holds an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from UCLA.

Jennifer Abrams, formerly a high school English teacher and a new teacher coach, is currently a communications consultant who works with educators and others on new teacher and employee support, being generationally savvy, effective collaboration skills, having hard conversations and creating identity safe workplaces.

Jennifer’s publications include Having Hard Conversations, The Multigenerational Workplace: Communicate, Collaborate & Create Community and Hard Conversations Unpacked - the Whos, Whens and What Ifs. Her upcoming book is tentatively titled Swimming in the Deep End: Leadership Skills for Aspiring, Emerging and Current Educational Leaders.

Jennifer was one of the “18 Women All K-12 Educators Should Know” featured in the blog ‘Finding Common Ground’’ from Education Week and has also been awarded the International Educational Entrepreneur Award by the International Academy for Educational Entrepreneurs.
