Mrs. Wong’s Letter
May 27, 2009  [Spanish]

Last Day of  School is a Minimum Day
The last day of school is Friday, June 5, 2009.  This will be a minimum day for the students.  Please note that lunches will not be served on this day.

Best of Manteca
Great news…all your votes counted…we have officially been named the Best Elementary School in Manteca!  Now not only you know, but the rest of Manteca knows that WE ARE THE BEST!!!  There is a plaque, which is hanging in our school office, to honor us.

Year Books
There are a limited number of copies of the year book available for $25.  Hurry in to get your copy of the school year book, which features all students from kindergarten through eighth grade.

2009 – 2010 School Year
The 2009 – 2010 school year will begin on August 10th.  Please check your newspaper and/or the Manteca Unified website at www.mantecausd.net in August, just in case there is a change.

New Gym
Finishing touches are being put on Shasta’s new gym. We are excited to be holding our promotional ceremony on June 1st.  The gym will be set to go for the next school year, where the lunches will be served, and it will be there for the students and teachers to use.

Mr. Mello
I am sorry to say that Mr. Mello, Shasta’s principal for 22 years, passed away on May 7th, after his long and courageous battle with cancer.  A podium sized dictionary has been purchased for  the Shasta Library in Mr. Mello’s memory.  Also, the Shasta Community Club will be planting a tree and buying a plaque in Mr. Mello’s honor.

Retirees
Shasta has several staff members who will be retiring this June.  They are:  Mrs. Studges, who teaches kindergarten, and has been at Shasta School since 2001.  Mrs. Farley, who teaches third grade, has been at Shasta since1972.  Mr. Tavares, who teaches seventh and eighth grade math, has been here since 1998.  Mrs. Foehringer, Shasta’s librarian, has been at Shasta since 1979.  Then, I will also be taking an early retirement.  I have been at Shasta School since 1984 as a resource specialist teacher, before becoming the vice principal in 2000, and this year as Shasta’s Acting Principal.

Final Words From Mrs. Wong
I have enjoyed working with you, your children, and the staff at Shasta School.  It has truly been a pleasure and an honor getting to know you and being the Acting Principal of the Best Elementary School in Manteca this year.   I would like to wish you and your family the best in the future.  Please have an enjoyable and safe summer!
