Rules
The following rules are meant to guide optimal student safety and achievement on campus, in the classroom, and in the computer labs.

School Rules

All students need to feel safe and comfortable at school. Rules provide a structured system to eliminate confusion and misunderstanding. It is important for students to develop responsibility, self-discipline and communication skills to resolve difficulties and promote a positive learning environment. The following rules have been established at Shasta School:
- Walk, don't run, on blacktop and cement surfaces.
- Play only in assigned areas.
- Play safely with all equipment.
- Do not climb on trees, fences, backstops, or railings.
- All intentional body contact is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, public displays of affection, pushing, tripping, fighting, wrestling, tackling, hitting, kicking, etc.
- Do not loiter, play, or chase students in or out of restrooms. Use restrooms designated for grade level.
- Obey all supervisors.
- Follow all the rules for games and display good sportsmanship.
- Students are not allowed in classrooms or other buildings without adult supervision.
- Use appropriate language. Vulgarity and profanity are prohibited.
- Harassment is prohibited. Harassment is any unwelcome behavior (physical, verbal or non-verbal that makes another student fell uncomfortable or unsafe. Harassment is forbidden by both state and federal law.
- Return all equipment to the appropriate area.
- Do not bring any personal equipment to school, including radios, CD players, video games, toys, cards, cameras, etc., or play equipment without teacher or administrator approval.
- Law prohibits weapons of any kind which can cause injury to another person. Also prohibited are explosive or destructive devices. This includes stun guns, pepper spray/tear gas, or any other "injurious, nauseous, or offensive substances" (Penal Code 38). Laser devices of all kinds are prohibited.
- Only school-approved hats may be worn at school. An approved hat is available for purchase at school.
- Cell phones are to be turned off during instructional time. Other electronic devices are not to be used without teacher or administrator approval.
- Skates, rollerblade-type inline skates, skateboards, scooters and wheeled toys other than bicycles are prohibited.
- Gum, seeds, candy or soda are not allowed in class or on the playground.
- Students are to dress appropriately for school. Shoes must be safe to wear for play and physical education. Flip-flops, high heels, shoes without heel straps, and open-toed shoes are not appropriate for student wear at school. Student dress and grooming shall not:
- create a safety hazard for the student or others;
- be disruptive of school operations and the educational process;
- be offensive or unusually distracting to others;
- convey profane, offensive language or illustrations; or be contrary to law.
Clothing and/or adornments may not advertise alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, or controlled substances. Also prohibited are any apparel, accessory, notebook or manner of grooming which, by virtue of its color, arrangement, trademark or any other attribute, denotes membership of a gang. See-through materials, spaghetti straps, and shorts above mid-thigh are prohibited. Oversized pants, shirts, headbands, bandannas, belt buckles with punched out letter, or undergarments showing above or through outer wear are not acceptable. Abdomens should be covered at all times.
