Rules

The following rules are meant to guide optimal student safety and achievement on campus, in the classroom, and in the computer labs.

School Procedures

School Grounds
      Students are permitted onto school grounds at 8:15a.m. Yard supervision begins at that time. Once students are on the school grounds, they are not allowed to leave without permission. If you bring your child to school and pick him/her up after school, please follow yard supervisor directions and keep the center lane clear for moving vehicles at all times.

Office Hours
      The school office is open weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Books and Materials
      Students are responsible for lost, stolen or damaged textbooks, library books, and school materials. Students should cover all textbooks are are not to write in them. Books are expected to be returned in the condition they were in when they were issued. Fees for damaged or lost books will be assessed by the principal.

Reporting Absence
     
Records are kept of each child's daily attendance. Parents are required to inform the office of all absences. California law states that an absence for illness, medical, dental, optometrist or chiropractic appointments will be excused. Please call the school attendance clerk prior to the start of the school day at 825-3450, and send a written statement (as verification) explaining the absence with your child when he/she returns to school.

Visitors to Classrooms and School Programs
      Shasta School is a "closed campus." All visitors must make arrangements in advance with the teacher. All visitors must sign in at the office when entering the campus and obtain a Visitor's Badge which is to by worn and visible. Student visitors are not allowed on the campus during the school day. Electronic listening or recording devices may not be used without the teacher's permission.

Early Checkout
     
A parent or authorized adult must checkout a child from school for lunch or appointments through the office. The parent or authorized adult must sign the office log, designating time and reason for departure. Photo identification is required.

Transfers
      If you move during the school year, please notify the office. Our secretary will assist you in completing the necessary forms and advise you of procedures to enroll your child in his/her new school. Records will be transferred upon official request by the receiving school.

Meals
     
Breakfast and lunch will be available to all students. If your child qualifies for free or reduce-price meals, the discounts will apply to both breakfast and lunch. Breakfast is available thirty minutes before the start of class. All breakfast and lunch meals are to be eaten in the cafeteria. Students wishing to go home for lunch must have their parents complete a Home Lunch Authorization Form obtained from the office. The Home Lunch Authorization is only good to have lunch at home and requires a supervising adult to be present in the home at lunch time.

Tardiness
     
Please be advised that a percentage of each student's grades may be based on attendance and participation. Students arriving after the tardy bell for any reason must report to the office for an admit slip. Each student will be allowed three tardies during the year. Detention will be assigned for each tardy thereafter. Students with irregular attendance and/or tardiness will be referred to Shasta's Truancy Prevention Counselor. When these issues are not resolved at the school level, students will be referred to the District Attendance Review Board for further legal action.

Walkers/Bike Riders
     
An adult crossing guard employed by M.U.S.D. crosses children at the Powers/Edison intersection before and after school. Students are to walk on sidewalks and cross in marked crosswalks. Jaywalking and walking in the street is dangerous and illegal. Bike riders are to wear safety helmets and obey all traffic laws. Bikes are to be walked on campus and while crossing crosswalks. Bikes are to be locked in the bike rack area provided. Bicycles are the responsibility of the owners. Bikes should be licensed with Manteca Police. The school does not assume liability for lost or damaged bikes.

Lockers
      Seventh and eighth grade students are provided a book locker. Lockers and locker combinations are not to be shared with other students. Padlocks may not be installed without Principal permission. Lockers are subject to search if contraband is suspected. Students are to maintain proper care of their lockers and report any problems to the custodian. The school does not assume liability for items lost or stolen.

Visitor Parking
      Parking space is extremely limited. Two short term visitor parking spaces have been reserved in front of the school office. For extended parking, please park in front of Shasta Park or along the school side of Edison Street. Do not park at red curbs. Center traffic lanes are marked to keep through traffic moving. Side lanes are intended for driver-attended vehicles and student pickup and drop off. Handicapped parking is provided near the cafeteria and front parking lot.

Principal's Newsletter
      A newsletter will be sent home every two weeks to keep parents informed of important dates, student programs, and curriculum. The school web site can be accessed through www.mantecausd.net.
