CLASSROOMS AND BUILDINGS
Indoor environments such as classrooms, offices and multi-use facilities will continue to be sufficiently ventilated for the health and safety of students and staff. In January 2021, Manteca Unified made a significant investment in acquiring Carrier OptiClean Air Scrubber units which use hospital-grade, high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters to further improve the air quality in schools. Air filters are checked and replaced regularly to ensure optimal air quality.
The OptiClean Air Scrubber unit is a portable air filtration system that meets and exceeds the American Society of Heating, Ventilation, Refrigeration, and Air-conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) standard for the ventilation of healthcare facilities. This filtration unit works by pulling air from the surrounding area which passes through a series of filters to remove many contaminants. The cleaner, fresher air is then recirculated back into the room allowing up to 6 air changes per hour versus the recommended 2 changes per hour.
In January 2021, MUSD installed HEPA-6 PROAIR filtration units in all school buses. The filtration unit provides a minimum of 12 Air Changes per Hour (ACH) and will be in continual use while students are on the bus.
