Grade 9 Math Placement
Ninth Grade Mathematics Placement Protocol
In 2015, the California Legislature enacted SB 359, the California Mathematics Placement Act of 2015. This act mandates that schools adopt a fair, objective and transparent mathematics placement policy for 9th grade students.
In compliance with SB 359 Manteca Unified School District Algebra Committee has developed the following placement protocol. For the full Manteca Unified School District Math Placement Policy please refer to our webpage or student handbook.
Initial Placement
Ninth grade initial placement determination made in spring of eighth grade year the Algebra I or Algebra A/B.
Initial Placement Indicators: Students with a MAP Winter RIT Score in the 21st percentile and below will be identified as candidates for Algebra A/B
Placement Verification
Student placement will be reevaluated within 2 weeks of 9th grade.
