For ALL students in Manteca Unified, breakfast and lunch are free!

Elementary school students will be offered breakfast in their classroom during the first 15 minutes of class and lunch is served in the cafeteria during their designated lunch period. Students who are enrolled in the after-school program receive a free snack and supper.

High school students can receive breakfast before the first-period bell from 8:00 am to 8:25 am in the cafeteria and cruiser carts stationed around campus. Lunch is also available at these locations during lunch periods.

Menus & Nutrition Resources

In Manteca Unified, parent and teacher conferences are known as Goal-Setting Conferences. These conferences take place two times per year for families of students in TK-8 grade and are dedicated to building relationships, setting learning goals, and celebrating growth. Importantly, Goal Setting Conferences take place BEFORE your child receives their report card so that you and your child’s teacher can partner together. 

Goal-Setting Conferences

In Manteca Unified, we use Standards-Based Report Cards in Transitional Kindergarten through sixth grade (TK-6) to communicate student progress. A standards-based reporting system is intended to provide parents with more information on how their children are performing academically toward California grade-level standards.

This change was years in the making. Instead of simply receiving a “good” or “bad” letter grade used on traditional report cards such as A, B, C, D, and F, parents will see words like "exceeded," "proficient," "approaching," or "beginning” next to each grade level standard to measure a child’s progress to meeting a standard. This system will help parents understand their child’s learning goals for the year, how they are progressing, and where a child might need extra help.

“We think it’s a more authentic and aligned way to assess student learning,” said Superintendent Dr. Clark Burke.

For students in grades 7+, a traditional report card is used as grades and GPA are referenced for college admissions.

Standards-Based Report Cards

Manteca Unified conducts diagnostic testing three times per year to measure student growth and gain valuable insights into each child’s academic progress. These assessments allow educators to identify where students are academically, pinpoint areas where they may need additional support, and determine what they are ready to learn next. This data-driven approach ensures that instructional strategies are tailored to meet the unique needs of every student.

In addition to diagnostic testing, official state testing takes place each spring for grades 3-8 and 11 — this testing is known as CAASPP and tests on state grade-level standards in English language arts and math as required by the state of California. Students in grades 5, 8, and 10 also take the California Science Test (CAST).

Together, these assessments help us make informed decisions that support student success and growth.

English Language Development — also known as ELD — is a program for students whose primary language is other than English. Manteca Unified offers an integrated and robust program with many students reaching reclassification (English language proficient) each year! The ELPAC is the required state test for English language proficiency (ELP) that must be given to students whose primary language is a language other than English. State and federal law require schools to administer this test to eligible students in kindergarten through grade twelve.

Absences can be cleared by contacting your school’s attendance clerk. Visit your school’s webpage and scroll to the bottom to quickly access their main phone number.

Absences can also be reported in the MUSD Parent Portal, also referred to as “Q Parent Connection”.

How to Report an Absence in the Parent Portal:

1. Log in to the parent portal via the MUSD app or online at https://q.musd.net/parent. Need help? Contact your child’s school office for assistance.  
2. Click “Report Absence” in the upper-right corner. 
3. Select your child’s profile. If you have multiple students in MUSD, choose the appropriate child who will be absent. 
4. Use the interactive calendar to select the date(s) and provide a reason for the absence. Remember, excused absences include necessities like student illness, medical appointments, or funerals. 
5. Add any relevant notes for your school’s attendance clerk and click “Submit.” 

Students who live beyond walking distance of their school of residence are eligible to ride the school bus, as defined by Board Policy 3540:

• Elementary school students who live outside of a 1.25-mile walking distance from their school of residence are eligible for transportation services.
• High school students who live outside of a 2.5-mile walking distance* from their school of residence are eligible for transportation services.

To check for eligibility, please review their school’s No Bus Zone map here prior to submitting a registration form.

To register for transportation services, please complete a School Bus Registration form and turn it into your child’s school.

Once your registration form is turned in and approved, MUSD’s Transportation Department will include your child in a bus route and issue them a Z-Pass Rider card. For more information regarding transportation services, please visit our Transportation webpage below.

Transportation

A top priority of our district is the safety and well-being of our students and staff. We employ the best school safety practices and work alongside local law enforcement as critical partners to seek every opportunity to ensure our students and staff are safe.

Manteca Unified and its schools have emergency plans that include detailed safety protocols for various situations. Administrators and school site safety teams update these plans regularly to reflect current local, state, and national conditions and refine campus safety protocols.

Should an incident occur, families may receive information via phone call, email, or text message. Certain safety terms will be used in these important messages. It’s important to understand these terms, so you know what actions are being taken to keep everyone safe.

Each Manteca Unified student is issued a laptop or tablet that allows them to access online homework, learning tools, as well as the Microsoft Office Suite of programs.

It is important to keep your contact information current with your child’s school to ensure that we are able to reach you in these scenarios.

Exact Path is a free learning tool that is tailored to each student based on MAP assessment data in reading, language arts, and math. This tool gives students the agency over when, where, and the pace in which they learn outside of school. Students can earn rewards and monitor their own progress each step of the way.

Conversations with your child’s teacher

Parent-Teacher Conferences are a valuable opportunity to connect with your child’s teacher, but remember, they are always available to discuss your child’s learning goals and strategies for success. Partner with your child’s teacher to explore additional ways to actively support their learning at home.

Parents can also get involved by joining school site parent groups! There are many ways to get involved, including Safety Council, Booster Clubs, volunteer opportunities, and more! Contact your child’s school office to discover which parent groups are available at their school.
