Meet the Board

Manteca Unified School District is governed by a seven-member Board elected by area. The elected member serves a four-year term. The Governing Board meets once a month with open session beginning at 6:00 p.m., in the District’s administration building located at 2271 West Louise Avenue, Manteca. The Governing Board is proud of the ongoing commitment of the people who are the driving force behind the programs and projects which support the targets. 

Role of the Board

The Board sets the direction for the District by focusing on student learning and achievement through a process that involves the community, parents/guardians, students, and staff. The role of the Board includes:

• Acting in the best interest of every student, is the Governing Board’s primary responsibility.
• Working together, the whole Board and the Superintendent fulfill their major responsibilities.
• Establish and adopt the Budget.
• Hire and appoint the Superintendent and his/her cabinet.
• Evaluate the Superintendent and educational programs. 
• Set and adopt the annual goals and objectives for the District.
• Adopt policies which set the focus and direction of the District.
• Oversee negotiations and approve all employee contracts.
• Communicate with the public the common vision of the Board.
• Govern in a dignified and professional manner, treating everyone with civility and respect.
• Govern the District as a whole Board and not by individual trustees.
• Pass a resolution when the whole Board gives direction outside of a policy.
• Direct the complainant to the appropriate person and not assist in the resolution.
• Maximizing Board effectiveness by governing responsibly and holding themselves to the highest standards of ethical conduct.
