“If all students achieve Algebra 1 rigor in their freshman year, this opens the door for higher-level math courses in their sophomore, junior, and senior years,” shared Director of Elementary Education Rene Knapp. But how do we ensure 8th-grade students are prepared to take this course when they arrive at their new camps?

Manteca Unified’s Goal-Setting Conferences strengthen partnerships between families and teachers by creating early opportunities to understand student needs, set goals, and build support systems for success. Through ongoing collaboration and communication, families and educators work together to celebrate growth, address challenges, and ensure every student feels supported both at school and at home.

Manteca Unified celebrates student growth and achievement through districtwide and school-based recognition programs that honor perseverance, progress, and milestones. From academic growth awards to English proficiency reclassification ceremonies, these celebrations highlight student accomplishments while ensuring learners feel seen, supported, and encouraged throughout their educational journey.

Across Manteca Unified School District, a meaningful shift has taken place, one that has changed not only how discipline is approached, but how we support students every day. While suspension rates have declined, we haven’t narrowed our focus to simply reducing these numbers. Instead, we have redefined what it means to provide “student support."

Manteca Unified is strengthening support for multilingual learners through targeted English Language Development instruction, collaborative teaching practices, and data-driven strategies that help students access rigorous academic learning. With 19% of MUSD students classified as English Learners, schools are focused on creating inclusive environments where students’ languages and cultural strengths are valued.

Inclusion classrooms have had an incredible impact on student growth, both academically and socio-emotionally. Guided by the belief that “Special Education is a Service, Not a Place,” Manteca Unified continues to expand inclusive practices that provide every learner with access to meaningful, challenging, and equitable educational experiences.
