The power of goal-setting conferences at MUSD

Manteca Unified does not host traditional parent-teacher conferences.

Instead, families of students in Transitional Kindergarten (TK) through 8th grade will participate in Goal-Setting Conferences throughout next week (January 27-31,2025). These conferences are a follow-up to those held in September - two proactive meetings scheduled during the academic year to refine learning plans and set new goals for the remainder of the school year.

Goal-Setting is a prime opportunity to strengthen the partnership between students, teachers, and families. By coming together to reflect on learning progress and form new goals to accomplish by May, students will be better set up to achieve proficiency (mastering their California state learning standards for their grade level) by the end of the school year.

It is critical that students meet proficiency by May so that they are on track for success in the next year and so on.

With direct instruction following a standards-aligned curriculum and support from parents, teachers, staff, and administrators, every student can achieve grade-level standards. Now is the time to join together to empower our students by putting the right academic plans in place.

Manteca Unified has prepared a how-to guide for what to do before, during, and after goal-setting conferences to help parents work together with their child’s teacher to support them through the rest of the school year. Visit www.mantecausd.net/goalsetting to access these resources.
