East Union High School Unveils Renovated Dino Cunial Stadium
Enhancing Student Experience, Athletics, and Community
Excitement filled the air at East Union High School as students, staff, alumni, and community members gathered for the unveiling of the newly upgraded Dino Cunial Stadium. With a focus on addressing the issues that can plague aging facilities, the $7 million renovation features a new hybrid Bermuda grass field, all-weather track replacement (including updates for field and throwing events), Accessibility (ADA)-compliant bleachers and pathing, emergency lighting, landscaping, and more.
“The completion of the football stadium project is a significant leap forward in enhancing the overall student experience at East Union,” said EUHS vice principal and athletic director Abbas Akhtar. “For athletes, the state-of-the-art facilities provide an unparalleled training ground, fostering excellence and sportsmanship. Beyond athletics, the stadium becomes a focal point for the entire student body, hosting events that bring the community together.”
During the event, the EUHS Booster Club hosted a dinner where Lancers – past and present – reminisced about their experiences on the field and the routine post-storm flooding that always impacted the stadium. With the improved drainage system incorporated into the new stadium, flooding will now be a thing of the past!
Despite the noise, Akhtar reflected on the seven-month construction phase fondly, stating, “The project became a symbol of progress and growth, inspiring a sense of pride and collective spirit.” These sentiments carried over into the Homecoming football game against Sierra, the Lancers’ first true home game all year, which included a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
