Manteca Unified School District Celebrates Cameron Harris

Recipient of the 2025 Statewide Judy Pine - West Emerging Music Educator Award

Manteca Unified School District (MUSD) is proud to announce that Cameron "Cammie" Harris has received the 2025 Judy Pine – West Emerging Music Educator Award from the California Music Educators Association (CMEA). This prestigious statewide honor recognizes an outstanding early-career elementary music educator who fosters creativity and innovation in the classroom.

The Judy Pine – West Emerging Music Educator Award was introduced in 2024 as part of CMEA’s long-standing tradition of recognizing excellence in music education. This new category highlights the contributions of early-career educators who embrace innovative teaching and student engagement. As one of several honors CMEA presents annually, this recognition not only celebrates Cammie’s achievements but also highlights the exceptional talent within Manteca Unified, reaffirming the District’s commitment to student engagement within the Visual Performing Arts (VAPA) programs.

A proud MUSD alumna, Cammie attended Walter Woodward Elementary and Manteca High School, where she was an active participant in band and choir. She recently earned her bachelor's degree in Music Education and Vocal Performance from Sacramento State University, solidifying her dedication to inspiring students through music.

MUSD’s Visual and Performing Arts Coordinator, Anthony Dahl, nominated Cammie for her exceptional ability to design engaging, student-centered lessons. The CMEA executive board carefully reviewed her nomination and ultimately selected her as the 2025 recipient.

Dahl, who has known Cammie since her time as a student at Manteca High, expressed his admiration: “It is truly inspiring to now welcome her as a colleague within Manteca Unified School District. Even in her first year, Cammie has made remarkable contributions, including establishing a daily junior high choir class while also teaching elementary and junior high music. She has demonstrated poise, adaptability, and an unwavering commitment to her students.”

When winning this award, Cammie reflected on her own journey as a student saying, “I always knew teaching would be challenging, but my experiences at Walter Woodward Elementary and Manteca High School, with the support of incredible teachers, shaped my path. This award is a testament to the impact they had on me and the joy I find in teaching. My classroom is a space where creativity and exploration thrive, and I’m excited to continue this journey with my students.”

Cammie’s philosophy centers on creating a safe, engaging environment where students can express themselves and explore music in new and meaningful ways.

Ms. Harris’ students at Nile Garden Elementary describe her classroom as a place of joy and discovery. “She makes me happy to learn about music—there is always a smile on her face,” one student shared. Another student highlighted her engaging teaching style, saying, “She lets us dance to the music,  feel the beat of the songs, and experiment with making our own music with instruments in the classroom.”

Her students also expressed how her class fosters confidence and curiosity. “I feel comfortable, safe, motivated, and excited to learn. I hear new music and artists I didn’t know of before her class,” shared another student.

Ms. Harris’ passion for music has inspired many to continue exploring their musical talents beyond the classroom, whether through singing, playing instruments, or participating in performances— a true testament to her lasting influence.
