Did you know that the greenhouse at the District Office campus is home to a thriving hydroponic garden being tended by students in the Manteca Adult Transition Program (MATP)? Ryan Costa, a teacher at the Manteca Adult School, led students in cleaning out the dormant greenhouse, setting up the soilless hydroponic system, and planting the lettuces, herbs, and vegetables.
With the county Workability Program having limited opportunities due to the pandemic, the greenhouse is a valuable opportunity for the 18-22 year old Adult Transition students to learn job skills. Students help to price products at the store, tend and harvest the plants, practice customer service skills and money handling during the weekly produce sale. Proceeds from the sale go back into the MATP to help fund skill building shopping trips and other events for the students
The weekly Green House Market is held on Thursdays from 11:30am-12:30pm at the greenhouse on the District Office Campus. Produce is $2 per bag. Contact Debbie Lopez with any questions. Please join us in supporting the MATP!
