The Original Timberwolves Celebrate 30 Years of Sierra High School
On the morning of August 29, 1994, Sierra High School opened its doors to students for the very first time. The energy was high as teachers and administrators welcomed the inaugural freshman and sophomore classes to campus.
In attendance for that first day were English teacher Amy Rosendin, Science teacher Richard Boyd, Drivers Ed. and P.E. teacher Dan Cunial, and Bilingual Aid Nora Anaya.
“Everyone was so excited to be here. When the school opened, we had the unique opportunity to create a culture and build upon it,” shared Mrs. Rosendin, who now serves as Sierra High’s Vice Principal.
The culture they established in 1994 and have continued to foster through the years is one of commitment: a commitment to excellence and a high level of student achievement. The staff and administration have always been driven to help students succeed, whatever that path looks like for each unique student. “Helping students reach their potential has been important since the very beginning,” shared Mr. Cunial.
Sierra High has evolved through the years to improve the high school experience for students. For example, for Mr. Boyd, who now serves as a P.E. teacher, coaching athletes and improving the physical education experience for students has been one of the most rewarding parts of his career.
Students have been at the heart of everything done by staff and administrators at Sierra, and through that, the staff have become a family. Even through the years as new staff and administrators have joined the pack, they have embraced the culture and school pride and found ways to enhance it.
When Ms. Anaya was asked what has kept her at Sierra High School for 30 years, she shared without hesitation, “The staff, definitely. They are like my second family.” Similarly, for Mrs. Rosendin, “Sierra is ‘home’, I’ve always felt there’s nowhere I’d rather be.”
Each of the 4 Original Timberwolves expressed immense gratitude for the opportunity to grow with Sierra High. Mr. Boyd shared that he “feels very fortunate to be here in this environment and have these people around [him] that have been supportive from Day 1 to now, 30 years later.”
On behalf of all of Manteca Unified, happy 30th anniversary to the Original Timberwolves and all the students and staff of Sierra High School!
