JROTC

The JROTC (Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps) program is designed to teach high school students the value of citizenship, leadership, service to the community, and personal responsibility.
Manteca Unified is home to one of the largest JROTC programs in the area and is recognized on the national stage for student achievement as part of the program. The program is offered at all five comprehensive high schools and has approximately 400 student-cadets enrolled. The program instills self-esteem, teamwork, and self-discipline as students prepare for responsible leadership roles in their future college and/or career paths.
JROTC is a course taught during regular school hours, but it also involves many out-of-classroom activities. It helps students develop a combination of skills, knowledge, and inner strengths including leadership skills, physical confidence, and teamwork. JROTC helps students develop personal pride by teaching study skills and test-taking strategies, as well as preparing them for job interviews. JROTC offers co-curricular activities such as drill team, color guard, and JROTC summer camps.
The course is open to all students, but enrollment in the course after the first year is subject to the JROTC instructors’ approval. JROTC can be taken in place of physical education. Successful JROTC students also receive an advantage when applying for college and university ROTC Scholarships.

JROTC IS...
Leadership Development: JROTC offers a structured program focused on developing leadership skills essential for success in life.
Character Building: It instills values such as integrity, discipline, and respect, fostering personal growth and ethical decision-making.
Inclusive: JROTC welcomes students from all backgrounds and interests, fostering diversity within its ranks.
JROTC IS NOT...
Recruiting for the Military: While JROTC provides valuable insights into military life and opportunities, participation does not obligate students to pursue a military career. There are no incentives for instructors to recruit for the military.
