Student Wellness Policy

Student Wellness

Manteca Unified's Board of Education has approved updates to the Student Wellness Policy (BP 5030) to reflect our commitment to student health, safety, and inclusion.

As part of our mission to create safe and supportive learning environments, we have updated the food guidelines within our Student Wellness Policy to reflect the latest state requirements and best practices. These updates keep MUSD ahead of changing practices and reinforce our focus on creating healthy, supportive environments for every student.

The updated policy prohibits the use of certain synthetic food dyes in foods served, sold, or provided by the District, including foods supplied by parents or guardians for classroom celebrations, fundraisers, or other school activities, in alignment with new California legislation. Foods and beverages provided to students during the school day will not contain the following synthetic dyes: Blue 1, Blue 2, Green 3, Red 40, Yellow 5, Yellow 6.

In addition, MUSD is taking an extra step by requiring food labels on all items brought onto campus. This ensures students with allergies or other unique needs feel safe, informed, and included. These requirements apply only to foods and beverages served at school. They do not apply to items that students bring from home for their own personal consumption.

We understand our families’ excitement around providing food for celebrations or fundraisers, and as such, we want to ensure there is clear guidance on what is allowed so that all students can safely participate and enjoy these special occasions. To learn what you can or cannot bring to share with your child's classmates, please check the updated Smart Snack list and the Smart Snack calculator linked below.

If you have any questions about the guidelines or shareable foods, please contact our Nutrition Education department at (209) 858-0778 or nemealaccounts@musd.net.
